Decommissioned Churches
Euharlee Presbyterian Church
Established in 1853, Euharlee Presbyterian Church was long an active congregation that worked together to create the community of Euharlee in Bartow County, GA.
Started with just twenty members, the church work to construct the Greek Revival style wooden Sanctuary by 1855. Master builders John W. Clayton and Stephen Glazner were tasked with the job.
When the sanctuary was first built, there was a balcony located inside for the African American members of the congregation. Many of those members were slaves. The balcony was removed during later renovations.
The education of the local community was an important priority for the church's early congregation. In 1896, the church chartered the Euharlee Presbyterian Institute, located within walking distance of the church.
The cemetery includes many of Euharlee's most notable residents, including many of the towns founding families.
Attendance boomed from the 1850s to the 1930s. The population of Euharlee waned after the Great Depression, as did the size of the congregation. The church went through expansion in the 1990's and built the adjacent education annex. Membership waned and the church closed in 2012. The property is now owned by the City of Euharlee, GA.
